POSEssion Chess Party Edition

POSEssion – Chess Party Edition is the first edition of POSEssion curated by Beumici Ambitchous. This is not a traditional ballroom ball, but a kiki event – a safer space for the ballroom community to practice, experiment, try out new categories, and most importantly, have fun together.
POSEssion is open to members of the ballroom community as well as to the public. Participants represent their kiki houses, while the battles themselves follow a no-house system, meaning anyone can battle anyone. The evening draws inspiration from chess aesthetics – black, white, and the tension between two contrasting sides.
The program features a wide range of ballroom categories across styles (including runway, performance, vogue femme, lipsync, realness, and more), DJ sets, and an afterparty. A workshop will also take place during the event (details TBA).
The event places strong emphasis on respect, safety, and inclusion, especially for queer people and queer people of color. Discrimination, inappropriate behavior, and cultural appropriation will not be tolerated. Photography and video recording are restricted during selected categories (Realness and Body).
POSEssion is open to spectators; however, please note that this is a public event and will be photographed and recorded.
The dress code follows the Chess Party Edition theme: black, white, or a combination of both. Although this is not a ball, bold outfits and polished looks are more than welcome.
Entry is free for transgender women and queer people of color (advance contact with the organizer required by February 21). Other participants and spectators can purchase tickets at the door or via participant registration.
